Biodiversity of Sri Lanka
The term Biodiversity is frequently being used these days while describing natural environment. Basically it provides information on living beings and their diversity respectively. Plant diversity is a result of evolution of over millions of years of plants which also include cultivated plants and artificially developed plants. It is well known that Sri Lanka is famous for its richness in biodiversity. One third of the country is covered with South West wet zone, which receives high rainfall which is highly favorable for plant life and is very rich in biodiversity. Even in the other climactic zones receive adequate amount of rainfall and well suited for plant growth. However the biodiversity is higher in natural habitats than other areas. Biodiversity can be divided into three main levels called Species Diversity, Genetic Diversity and Ecosystem Diversity.
